well...according to some scientific study...the brain have up to 6 mins of oxygen to survive, even after the body has stopped functioning
so, withing this 6 min time frame, the brain is still concious of it's surroundings, still able to process infomation and stuff like that 
guess it is not surprising that one could be clinically dead, but still concious (up to 6 mins, that is )

ya...but with their eyes supposedly closed how do they see the docs and medics????

When the brain is under alot of stress, and the other senses isn't functioning as when a person is clinically dead, the brain would try to "create" it's own images and senses...

Well, I've read this study on one of the scientific journals quite sometime ago....I think. Forget where Ive actually read it, but the concept of it is in my memory.
Anyway it's a more logical reason than to simply jump to the conclusion of some supernatural force at work...and it also explains why buddhists tends to see buddha, and christians "tend" to see angles..etc And I remembered that it also mentioned that the "bright lights" were an effect of the brain losing it's oxygen..

there was a documentary on discovery channel about such studies too...a few years back, if i'm not wrong

that is interesting...but i wouldn't want to go thru it...it'll be scary for me
