What do you guys/gals think about the 'Through Train Programme' which actually sees a student from secondary school going through to the JC without the O-level. This is pertinent for students who are clearly University bound and therefore there is no need to have an exam like the O-level to verify his/her eligibility.

What do you guys think about it? do you think this will affect the standards as students begin to move towards JC and finally to the uni without going through the traditional ways of doing their O's then JC and then the final steps.

Countries in the West have already started on such programme, but do you guys think about it for SG?

to my knowledge of this programme is that not all schools will be implementing this, it will be only apply to a select few, and if this is the case, it will only further widen the rift between those schools and the other neighbourhood school thereby creating an elite-ist group if it doesnt exist already. Its unfair to the other students from the neighbourhood schools.

And if its not applied to all schools, the way singapore parents think would be, they will tell their children while they are in primary school to study very very very hard so that they can get into those selected schools then they don't have to take exams anymore. Complacency and arrogance will breed in those selected schools in the future more likely.

Im not saying im definitely right but its just my 2 cents worth.

Hope did raise a few good points

how are the kids gonna be graded to segregate them from the rest?
as it is, the present school system already started to stream at primary 1, what they gonna do? stream them from nursery?

what is to say that teaching materials for the 'creme a la de crop' will be the same as those who are not?

with the new system, boys are gonna be going to uni faster than most others, does that equate to more officers during their NS when they are required to serve?

hmm...maybe ah gong will start to consider teaching full time tuition...bound to have lots of kiasu parents wanting to put their kids in such a stream
