I took a long time off from the game and had all old equipment. When playing 2-3 times per week around 2000 I played to a 7 or 8 but when I put the clubs away in 2008 in was only playing 3 to 4 times per month. I wanted and need new equipment (I was still hitting an old Titleist 907 driver and Taylor Burner irons !) and hit a few sets of irons but as soon as I felt the ball coming off of the Titleist AP1 712 Irons, I fell in love with them! I took them out last weekend and hit 8 or 10 of the best iron shots I've hit in years. The feel is incredible, wedge thru long irons, and you can work them. I was afraid thatI'd be hooking them (2 degrees upright and a half inch longer than standard!) but nothing could be further from the truth ! They appear to be getting marked up a bit early but that's just superficial ! They are LONG (probably a full club longer than my old irons !) and have an incredible feel ! As we can see, the ap1 are constructed of a cast stainless steel body, with a concentrated tungsten sole weight, thin steel sole plate, and an advanced dual cavity multi-material design. It builds on the success and technology of the AP1 with a Tuned Feel Cavity Insert System, an elastomer/aluminum co-molded medallion in the cavity, specifically designed to improve feel and sound, as well as the face thickness being reduced to provide increased stability and feel. The short irons are traditional with a progressively reduced blade length and a beveled topline allows the irons to be more precise at address. Besides, the Titleist R&D team's advanced research group has been conducting extensive sound and vibration analysis aimed at reducing the harsh lower frequency vibration that causes poor feel in irons. This research led to combining several technologies and materials in the back cavity of the new ap1 irons resulting in a new Tuned Feel System to take feel to a new level.
