The Physics of Soccer
In the past, when the ball was kicked, you could more or less predict the path of the ball and get one of your players to intercept it. Whatever the scenario, unless an opponent intercepts your pass, the ball gets sent there as if the passer used DHL to deliver it.

Theorem 1

BALL + OPPONENT’S FACE = OPPONENT KO

With FIFA 2000, EA Sports introduce COLLISIONS. If you blast the ball into the face of another player, it will more or less knock him out or at least stun him. In my first season, I’ve KO’ed more people than Mike Tyson and Rocky Balboa combined (yeah I know Rocky’s fictitious but I really like him, YO ADRIEAN!).

Theorem 2

BALL + OPPONENT’S BACK (IN PENALTY BOX) = OWN GOAL

That was for the player physics so let's talk about ball physics now. Simply put, it’s realistic. In fact, it was so realistic that once my defender cleared the ball in the penalty box, it hit an opponent’s back and flew into the net. I guess sometimes realism ain’t that good after all. So like any good AI, I learnt my lesson and have never cleared the ball into an opponent’s back since.

Theorem 3

BALL + OPPONENT’S DEFENDER (IN PENALTY BOX) + LUCK = GOAL

Like the old saying, there are two sides to a coin, I once scored a goal from a free kick just outside the D after a lucky deflection off one of the opponent’s defenders.

OK, let's get to the real meat of the review!
