ABIT BX6 2.0 Motherboard

Performance
High performance is another great advantage of ABIT mainboards. A big number of different tests prove that ABIT deserves this praise. Besides, BX6 Rev 2.0 is ABITís third i440BX mainboard, so we suppose that their technology has successfully stood the test. We expect the mainboard to work irreproachably.

"ABIT BX6 Rev 2.0 left far behind not only our former favorite Chaintech 6BTM but also its current opponent ASUS P2B Rev 1.10. We have to admit that ABIT finally succeeded in designing the quickest mainboard. Congratulations!"

The test system contained the following hardware:

  • Intel Pentium II 450
  • Video Chaintech AGP-740DNS 8 Mb (i740)
  • Sound Ensoniq ES1370
  • HDD IBM Titan DTTA 371010
  • SEC PC-100 SDRAM 128 Mb

The test involved the following applications:

  • Windows 98
  • WinStone99
  • Quake massive1 (OpenGL, 800x600 resolution)

We compared the ABIT BX6 Rev 2.0 performance with that of ASUS P2B Rev 1.10 and Chaintech 6BTM. The following charts show the achieved results:

WOW!!! COOL! ABIT works wonders! ABIT BX6 Rev 2.0 left far behind not only our former favorite Chaintech 6BTM but also its current opponent ASUS P2B Rev 1.10. We have to admit that ABIT finally succeeded in designing the quickest mainboard. Congratulations! Though we cannot guarantee that this triumph will last long. Their main competitor Ė ASUS - keeps on introducing new revisions of P2B, and as for Chaintech, they havenít yet offered anything new.

However, there's still one unanswered question which made me feel a little uncomfortable: how does ABIT manage to show the highest performance among all BX-mainboards? Frankly speaking, I hope performance does not happen at the expense of reliability. Though grave doubts creep into my mind when I see how often ABIT offers new BIOS versions for its mainboards. Moreover, a number of western specialists share my fears.
